We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is governed through a representative democracy, led by elders who are elected by the congregation from among its members. To be Presbyterian is to confess the Christian faith, trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, seek to follow Christ’s example in daily life, and commit to active participation in the life and mission of the Church. As a community of faith in the Reformed tradition, we celebrate two sacraments: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion). As a congregation, a community of faith, and disciples of Jesus Christ, we have adopted the following Mission and Vision statements to guide our individual and collective journey.

Communion
Communion—also known as the Lord’s Supper or the Eucharist—is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month and on special occasions. It is a sacred time to renew our faith and be spiritually strengthened for the responsibilities and blessings of Christian service. Whether you are a first-time guest or a long-time member, you are welcome at the Lord’s Table. Church membership is not required to participate in Communion.
Baptism
Baptism is the sacrament that unites us with Jesus Christ and makes us members of God’s family—the Church. It is a public confession of faith, made in the presence of the community, and a visible sign of God’s grace. Baptism is a gift of the Holy Spirit, offered by God. It may be received on behalf of a child by their parents as an expression of hope and encouragement for future faith, or by individuals who are ready to publicly declare their trust in Christ and commit to a new life of spiritual growth. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, baptism marks our entry into the Church, assures us of God’s forgiveness, and calls us to a life of discipleship and service. If you have questions about baptism, please contact the church office at 810-227-7411.
Church Membership
If you are interested in joining this congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) or would simply like to learn more about what church membership involves, we invite you to attend our next New Members Class. These classes are designed to help you become more familiar with First Presbyterian Church of Brighton—our mission, beliefs, and community life. Upon completion of the class, you will meet with the Session for a conversation and formal acceptance into membership. To find out more or to sign up for an upcoming class, please contact the church office at 810-227-7411.
Weddings
We recognize that weddings are a sacred and significant milestone in life. In accordance with our current Wedding Policy, church members and their immediate families who wish to be married at First Presbyterian Church will meet with the pastor and participate in pre-marital discussions as part of the preparation process. We also welcome inquiries from non-members who are interested in being married at our church. If you are interested in getting married here, we encourage you to reach out and speak with one of our pastors. For more information or to begin the conversation, please contact the church office at 810-227-7411.
